Oppo Find X describe as the most innovative smartphone of 2018 so far, and it really looks like a smartphone from the future.
The box itself is pretty clean with blue texture sort of finish, Find X in gold, and we’ve also got the Oppo logo in gold on the left-hand side.
Oppo Find X looks and feels so dove. Inside the box, as well as the phone itself, you do get a :
-VOOC charger which is a fast charger
-USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable
-SIM card ejector tool
-Earbuds ( USB Type-C earbuds)
Unfortunately, we do not have a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack on the Oppo Find X. However you do get a dongle as well, so this is a USB Type-C to 3.5-millimeter headphone jack dongle.
I got a metal frame with curved glass panels on the front and back, this back has a gradient finish, so this is the Bordeaux Red.
There’s also a blue version available, and it’s darker in the middle and then tapers off towards the edges.
Looks like a pink-purple, more than a red, I would say, but depending on the way light is shining on it, it does give you quite a unique look.
There’s the Oppo logo at the back and also Find X designed by Oppo logo at the bottom.
You’ll notice that there is no rear-facing camera on the back, we’ll come to that in just a second.
Let’s move on towards the front of this smartphone where it has its standout and unique feature.
Oppo Find X Display
Oppo Find X has a beautiful display with minimal bezels.
Oppo Find X display has a 93.8% screen-to-body ratio, which is the highest screen-to-body ratio on any smartphone on the market right now.
Some sources claim that this is more towards 87%, but regardless, this is still the highest screen-to-body ratio out.
You can see that find X have small bezels all around.
I got a small chin, again, it’s not as big as other devices that we’ve seen in the past and my first impressions, I have to say, it looks beautiful.
The fact that they’ve managed to stretch out the display all towards the edges without a notch is awe-inspiring.
Oppo Find X display measures 6.42 inches which sound really big, it is really big, but the device doesn’t feel that big because of those small bezels and also because of the edges curve in like on the Samsung Galaxy S9s.
If we just quickly bring in the Samsung Galaxy S9+ as well as the iPhone X for comparison, we can only see those small bezels on the Find X.
Although have a slight chin on the Find X, it is smaller compared to that of the S9+, and it’s only ever so slightly bigger compared to the bottom bezel of the iPhone X and of course on the iPhone X have a notch.
So it is very impressive what Oppo have achieved with this screen-to-body ratio.
Oppo Find X has AMOLED technology, so very bright and vibrant colors and viewing angles also look really good.
The Oppo Find X resolution is full HD+, it’s not quite HD+ like some other devices, but it’s 401 PPI which is more than acceptable.
This is a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, so it is pretty long, once again, because of those tiny bezels.
Oppo Find X Hidden Camera
You will notice that as with the rear, we had no cameras and there is no front-facing camera here either, and that is because it’s hidden.
The whole upper part actually slides up; it’s motorized.
Inside this top panel as well as the front-facing camera which is a 25-megapixel front-facing camera with an f2.0 aperture, there are a bunch of sensors and these are 3D facial recognition sensors.
So this device does not have a fingerprint scanner anywhere, and it’s going to use facial recognition.
Oppo Find X 3D Facial Recognition
3D facial recognition feature, it’s not like some of the devices where it’s just going to use the front-facing camera.
This 3D facial recognition does project 15,000 dots on your face and Oppo are saying that it’s 20 times safer than a fingerprint scanner.
How does this work, press the power button, you swipe up, you can see that the top panel has popped up, it recognizes your face, and then it goes back down, it does that quite quickly.
A lot of people are going to be asking is around durability, that’s how many times is this going to pop up and down on daily use because it’s not only the cameras, the front-facing, rear-facing cameras, it is also that facial recognition.
Oppo has said that this has been tested for durability over 300,000 times so that should last you a lifetime with this smartphone.
Within this unique popup feature, Oppo Find X has dual rear-facing cameras. These are 16 megapixels as well as 20 megapixels both with an f2.0 aperture, and the primary 16-megapixel camera does have optical image stabilization.
Based on these specifications, the cameras are going to be very similar to the Oppo R15 Pro and the OnePlus 6.
Looking around the device, from the fantastic popup feature and the display.
On the right-hand side, there is just a single power button.
On the left-hand side, there are volume buttons, at the top is a secondary mic and a sensor.
At the bottom, there’s a USB Type-C connector, primary microphone, speaker – this is a single bottom firing speaker and SIM card tray.
Oppo Find X don’t have a space for microSD card, so you do not have expandable storage.
But it does come with 256 gigabytes of storage so that should be plenty for anybody.
Apart from that, we’ve got all the flagship specs.
-Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with 8Gb RAM,
-3730 mAh battery
-VOOC fast charging.
There is a Lamborghini Edition of the Find X which has even faster charging, and that’s going to be able to charge your phone fully in 35 minutes which is absolutely insane, I can’t imagine that.
However, The Oppo Find X Lamborghini Edition does not have wireless charging. So although we do have a glass back, there is no wireless charging.
For the software, Find X have ColorOS 5.1, running on top of Android 8.1.
Once again, my first impressions, I love Oppo Find X design, I love the innovation that Oppo is doing and credit to Oppo for coming up with this unique set up in this smartphone.
There are a few things that you do need to consider if you’re thinking about picking up this smartphone.
The first, the lack of water and dust resistance because Oppo Find X have a motorized solution, this device is not going to be water and dust resistant, unfortunately.
But also the fact that, how do you get a suitable case for this, I have yet to come across a situation that’s going to be protective of this device because of this popup camera.
Questions about durability. Yes, Oppo has tested this 300,000 times but in day-to-day use, Oppo Find X going to trap in some dust or some dirt.
Oppo Find X Price
Oppo Find X is going to retail at $1000 which is pretty high, but for what you’re getting, this new technology, I do believe that that price is justified.
Who is this smartphone for?
If you’re an enthusiast, and if you’re looking for something that’s brand new, fresh, and different to what everybody else is doing out there, then this may be a perfect option for you.
